Derived from a patented, purified and powdered extract of Apocynum venetum L. , Venetron® is a unique extract containing no less than 2% hyperoside and no less than 2% isoquercitrin that has been shown in several placebo-controlled human clinical trials to
Venetron works by first preventing the degradation of serotonin in the bloodstream throughout the day, which results in increased production of melatonin at night, allowing for better quality sleep all night long.*
A 2018 randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover study showed significant improvements in sleep quality in those who took 50 mg of Venetron daily versus those who did not, with additional indications relating to reduced feelings of stress[1].
Researchers have found that Venetron improves deep non-rapid-eye-movement (non-REM), which is known to be the most restorative sleep stage that is associated with sleep quality and staying asleep[2].
Other studies, both published and unpublished have shown benefits in reducing stress, improving mood and enhancing outlook.* One such study showed that Venetron does not affect the CYP3A pathway, and is effective at a low dose of just 50 mg per day)[3].
A 2023 peer-reviewed study published in the journal Japanese Pharmacology & Therapeutics demonstrates the efficacy of Venetron in supporting women’s health, specifically regarding subjective and objective markers associated with premenstrual syndrome (PMS) and menstruation.
The trial, which was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group comparison study, looked at 42 healthy Japanese women randomly assigned to receive either Venetron (50 mg) or a placebo daily for one menstrual cycle [4].
Women who received Venetron reported significant improvements in symptoms described in a Menstrual Distress Questionnaire. Areas of reported improvement before menstruation included
Participants reported improvements during menstruation in areas such as
Venetron is believed to exert its effects in the following ways:
Reducing secretion of chromogranin A, a stress marker*[5]
Working in synergy with GABA, whose main function is to calm brain excitation*[2]
Increasing serotonin levels, thereby boosting mood*[6]
Venetron is an extract of Apocynum venetum, an herb that has been used for centuries in Traditional Chinese Medicine and is also consumed as food and tea. Studies on Apocynum venetum have confirmed its safety.[7],[8] Venetron’s action is based on well-known and safe flavonoid phytocompounds, and it has not demonstrated any significant adverse effects in clinical trials.
