MBP is a component of whey consisting of several different biologically active proteins, including high mobility group-like protein, cystatin C and lactoferrin. Six human clinical studies (including four double-blind placebo-controlled trials) have shown that MBP increases bone mineral density in both young and elderly adults.*
Although milk is high in protein, MBP accounts for only a small fraction of its overall protein content. Therefore, it is not practical to ingest a therapeutic dose of MBP through the consumption of dairy products.
MBP improves Bone Density via balancing Osteoblastic Bone Formation and Osteoclastic Bone Resorption
Human clinical research has shown that MBP maintains normal bone metabolism and structure.*[1] It works by:
Encouraging healthy bone remodeling.* MBP increases the number of osteoblasts (cells that build bone) and inhibits the activity of osteoclasts (cells that break down bone).*[2],
[3]Promoting collagen formation.* Calcium is needed for bone strength, but without collagen, it has no place to attach to the bones. By increasing collagen production, MBP helps calcium adhere to bone.*[4],[5],[6]
MBP is a natural ingredient derived from milk. MBP is FDA GRAS and FOSHU-certified by the Consumer Affairs Agency, Government of Japan. Because MBP may contain trace amount of lactose, caution should be exercised if you are lactose intolerant.
